Join us for our 9th season!
Each season at the Hillsboro Community Youth Choir is an exciting adventure. Our singers work hard to develop their music skills. But a concert without an audience isn’t very much fun! That’s why we’re delighted to welcome you to any of our upcoming events.
Spring Concert “The Sound of Silents: Music from the Dawn of Film”
Hillsboro Community Youth Choir is delighted to present a very special concert for all ages at 4pm on Saturday, March 1. “The Sounds of Silents: Music from the Dawn of Film” will feature Hillsboro organist Paul Quarino.
In this concert, Mr. Quarino plans to delight the audience with organ music from the Silent Movie Era, both as pure organ entertainment and also accompanying the HCYC Prelude, Premiere and Encore choirs as they sing favorites from this early jazz era. The concert’s special highlight will feature Quarino in authentic 1920s-style improvised accompaniment to a historic silent film.
All songs will be from 1915-1929, before “talkies” were born. Featured songs the HCYC choirs will perform include a trio by composer George Gershwin: Someone to Watch Over Me, The Man I Love, and I’ve Got a Crush on You. Other songs to be performed include Button Up Your Overcoat; Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goo’bye; Yes, Sir, That’s My Baby; Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue; Ain’t Misbehavin’; and Doctor Jazz.
The audience will be invited to sing along for a rousing grand finale.
Concert tickets are currently $8 per adult, $2 per youth (6-18) and free for children under 6. Tickets may be purchased online in advance, or at the door on the day of the concert.
