Meet our Artistic Director
We are pleased to have Cindy Uecker as our Artistic Director and Director of the Encore and Premiere Choirs. Cindy holds a B.A. in Education with a major in music from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and a Master of Music Education from Portland’s Lewis and Clark College. She also holds an Orff-Schulwerk Certificate from the University of Denver.
Cindy brings over thirty years of choral education and conducting experience, including a decade as choral director at Hillsboro’s Liberty High School. A member and past guest conductor of the Oregon Chorale, she also enjoys ethnic music and dance. Convinced that every child can sing, Cindy is motivated by the belief that choral education indeed enriches the spirit.
From Cindy Uecker
“We have had a wonderful seven years as a community choir! I have thoroughly enjoyed these young singers, taking delight every week in their beautiful voices and personalities. Not only is a community youth choir vital for the individual musical growth of each young person involved, but young voices are an important artistic presence within our community. I look forward to this eighth terrific year!”
Meet our Prelude Director
We are pleased to welcome Emily Helligso as our Prelude 1 & 2 Choir Director. Emily holds a B.A. in Music Education from George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon and a Master of Teaching from George Fox as well. She has worked in the Gresham and Tigard and Tualatin School Districts and is now a music teacher in Hillsboro at Imlay and Indian Hills Elementary schools. Emily enjoys learning how to motivate students to experience the joy that music can bring. She performs with a choir called Voices of Hope that performs benefit concerts for people and charities in need using her gifts to give back to the community.
“I am looking forward to working with the students and families in HCYC to make great music and great experiences together!”
